Working retail/rude customers

Rude customers

Ok so I am a college student and I work retail. Enough said. Anyone who has ever worked retail or any form of customer service job can relate I'm sure. Just for a little background, I work in a clothing store. If you are a customer, here are the things to not do.

1) First of all I would like to point out that sales associates, despite popular belief, are in fact human beings. We are not slaves. We deserve the respect and consideration that any other human being deserves. Do NOT come in my store snapping your fingers and demanding things like you own the place. A simple please and thank you will suffice.

2) If you ask for something in a different size and I tell you we don't have it, accept it and move on. Don't get mad at me. I can't do anything about it. I don't make the clothes I just sell them. Rude customers always look at me like I'm an idiot and get mad because we don't have it. And geeze I just love when you ask me to "check in the back". To clear up a common misconception: THE BACK IS NOT A FREAKING MAGICAL PASSAGEWAY TO A SWEAT SHOP IN TAIWAN WHERE SOME 5 YEAR OLD CAN CUSTOM MAKE WHATEVER YOU WANT!The only thing in the "back" is new shipment stuff that isn't on the floor yet. We won't have your hideous clearance item in a size xxxL. GET OVER YOURSELF!

3) We close the store promptly at 9:00. When you hear the music turn off, either buy something or get the fu** out! Don't ask me for a fitting room, try on clothes for the next half hour and then not buy anything.

Customer: When do you guys close?

Me: Actually we're closing up now.

Customer: Oh...can I try these on?

Me: Sure no problem (but really I'm thinking you fu**ing b*tch what makes you feel like you have the right to be in the store after it closes!?)

4) If it is past 9 and the door is locked, pulling on every single one as hard as you can isn't going to make me open the door for you. I've actually had people shout at me throught the door at 10 past "but I just need to make a return!"...or "aww are you closed?!" YES WE"RE F-ING CLOSED! HENCE WHY THE DOORS ARE LOCKED! Don't get offended when I don't specially open the door for your own personal private shopping pleasure.

5) Maybe this is just me, but don't make five-f**king-thousand trips into the fitting room. Get all your sh*t that you want to try on in one load. I will start a fitting room for you. All you have to do is ask. When you make a sh*t ton of trips into the fitting room, try on a mountain of clothing and then decide you don't like any of it but one little t-shirt, I have to go put all that stuff back and it's inconsiderate. Like really? You're so f-ing lazy that you can't at least fold and hang the stuff up? Just don't leave it in a huge pile on the floor.

6) Ok here is one of the major things that really just grinds my gears. Stores size stacks of clothing from XS on the top down to XXL on the bottom. DO NOT DIG THROUGH OUR STACKS! We've wasted too many hours of our life for you f**k-tards to come through and completely destroy our nicely folded items. Seriously. ASK AN ASSOCIATE FOR A SIZE! If they are busy, WAIT. You can't be in that much of a damn hurry if you have the time to shop. If you absolutely MUST have it right at that moment, the least you could do is fold everything back the way it was instead of leaving it looking like crap. How would you like it if you're at home doing your laundry and as soon as all your sh*t is folded I come dig through all your shirts and take your pants off the hangers and just throw it all together in a big wad and stomp on it hmm? That's what I thought. Same thing. Just be respectful and understand that we worked hard to make the store look nice for you. So help us keep it looking nice.

7) Before you ask me how much something costs, how about you actually look for the tag first. Just because it isn't in immediate plain sight doesn't mean it isn't there. Check under the shoulders. Furthermore, if you find an item in the front of the store where all of the other regularly priced items are, don't ask me if it's on sale. It isn't. If it's brand new then it isn't on sale. And no, I won't give you a discount because it has a scratch on it. This isn't a f**king trading post. We don't barter here.

8) I understand returning an item that didn't quite fit right, or even exchanging for a different color or size, but when you come in with a bag full of stuff that cost you hundreds of dollars and you want to return it because it "didn't fit right" don't think that I fall for that sh*t. Company policy is that I have to return everything, but I know what you did. You bought the stuff and wore it a few times, then when you got tired of it you returned it so that you just have this perpetual shopping spree. THIS ISN'T F-ING BLOCKBUSTER! This practice is wrong and it's right up there next to stealing in my book.

9) Shoplifters. I. Hate. Shoplifters. You may think it's harmless, or fun, or cool; whatever. Someone in this world (probably the 5 year old in Taiwan) put good time and effort into making this clothing. Shoplifters are selfish, pathetic excuses for human beings who feel that they are entitled to have anything they want without paying for it. I think shoplifting anything (be it over $500 or not) should be a felony charge.

10) I hate when parents let their 13 year olds wander around the shopping complex with no supervision. They come in, goof off, take pictures and leave. Oh and by the way, pretty much all retail stores have a stric no-picture policy. So you little tweens trying on our sunglasses and hats and taking myspace pics or whatever the hell it is you all do need to grow up.

There are definitely other things that annoy me about retail but don't get me wrong. I love my job. And I love nice customers who are respectful. My coworkers are like a second family to me. But those rude customers grate on my nerves. Gotta vent somehow ; )

Peace

hahaha. I love this. I 100% agree, especially with #1. Do you happen to work at American Eagle? I do, and I experience this crap every day.

So true. I work in a retail store where customers will come to register before even looking for the price on the item and ask how much it is and when I tell them they just leave it there. This happens constantly and I don't meant when they are purchasing items at the register but it happens when they are just browsing around the store.

omg so true!!! I worked in both a clothing store and I've been working in a shoe store. I can't tell you how many people we get in there that act like they own the damn place. Or they bring their kids in and let them run a muck and dirty all of our mirrors, throw all of our shoes everywhere. It truly is a hassle because now I have to go find where that shoe really goes and if I can't find the other one, guess what? that shoe has to sit on the mismate rack and can't be sold and we don't profit. and don't get pissy at me when I'm at the register and have a closed sign on my register when I'm trying to clock out for lunch and i can't help you. Don't create a big shoe mess and leave it there paper all thrown across the place. We don't get paid much. We're there to help and guide the customer, it's hard to do that when they can't even have enough respect for us to clean up their mess and put their items back. If you can't find it, bring it up to us, we'll be happy to find it, but don't "accidently" put it in the wrong spot or keep it under the bench. Customers can be so rude. I work at DSW and we offer amazing customer service, we consistently greet customers and help them with anything. We don't get paid on commission and we still give you great service don't give us a piss poor attitude or annoying kids to clean up after or have to tell to stop running around and knocking people over. Sorry def needed to vent about that! But I feel you!

Do you really love what you do? You dedicate 10 paragraphs to complaints and 1 to how much you love your job. Find a different job if you can't deal with the things you're PAID to do deal with--including rude customers. I hated having negative, whiny, and bitchy co-workers like you and I'm sure customers wouldn't miss it either.
